The Sacred Responsibility of a Teacher

There is something dangerous that can happen in spirituality: guidance can quietly become control.

A teacher is supposed to point you toward yourself—not create a dependency that keeps you orbiting around them.

A teacher can say:

This is what I experienced. This is what helped me. This is what I learned. This is how I found my way through the darkness.

But eventually, every responsible teacher must also be willing to say:

Now go inward. Your road may look nothing like mine.

Because your spiritual path belongs to you.

No teacher, church, religion, tradition, book, healer, mentor, or spiritual system should become the permanent authority over your inner world.

They can offer wisdom.

They can illuminate a doorway.

They can walk beside you.

But you still have to cross the threshold.

To me, coming home to the self means removing the conditioning that taught you who you were supposed to be.

It means confronting the patterns you inherited and the ones you created.

It means integrating your darkness instead of pretending you only possess light.

It means developing discernment, recovering your voice, questioning what you were taught, taking responsibility for your choices, and learning to recognize the difference between intuition and fear.

Eventually, you begin asking a much deeper question:

Who am I when nobody else is telling me who to be?

Who are you without society's expectations?

Without the need for approval?

Without inherited beliefs?

Without fear?

Without somebody else's blueprint?

That is where the journey becomes sacred.

Because perhaps awakening was never about becoming more dependent on something outside yourself.

Perhaps it was about remembering what was already within you.

We may encounter teachers along the way. Some will stay for years. Others will appear for only a season. Some will teach through wisdom. Others will teach through disappointment.

But none of them can become you.

The teacher can hand you a map, but they should never convince you that they are your compass.

And eventually, even the map must be put down.

Because the deepest journey is the one only you can walk.

Same destination. Different roads.
